FUNtastic Island
FUNTASTIC ISLAND
(Gibitngil Island, Medellin, Cebu)
One of the most anticipated time of the year has
finally arrived, and this time I am northbound!
Summer, nowadays can either be both a blessing or a
curse – depends on the eye of the beholder really – hahah!
Due to the scorching heat summer brings, people tend
to flock out from their comfort zones and go to some place that will ease the
heat, at least, momentarily. Well, for people like us with very itchy soles
there is really no season nor time, all we need is a location and off we
go (oh I forgot, money of course! Lol)!
FUNTASTIC Island in Gibitngil Island, Medellin, Cebu
has been sitting in my bucket list for quite some time now and thought maybe
it's about time to give it a go for this summer's jaunt. Someone was kind and
sweet enough to lend us a ride for free (to & fro) so we saved money on the
fare *yey!*. We started our journey early Saturday morning (3 A.M.) and reached
Kawit, Medellin public market at around 6 AM. Strolled the market for prolly an
hour or less to buy food and things we will need, and then off we go to Kawit
shoreline where our rented pump boat that will take us to Gibitngil Island was
waiting.
The boat ride took about 15-20 minutes, but during
that span of time the view is just spectacular! The rock formations are just
jaw-dropping, and I'd say it was one of the highlights of our trip.
It somehow gives you an imagination of Moher Cliffs in
Ireland
Water is just crystal!
Approaching the Island...
Zip line
We were just a tad bit surprised and a tad bit
disappointed to see a not-so-little community residing at the island. No
offense meant, but mostly before I go to a place I try to study and gather some
helpful information or tips as much as I could so as to be prepared for some
“God-Knows-What” type of things. However, none of the blogs I've read got this
information or maybe I just did not read all of the blogs related to this
place. Anyway, that was just a minority issue to compare to the whole
experience. The locals are very polite, helpful and always willing to assist.
The cottages has different rates, but we were early
birds so we got the biggest kiosk on top (*wink*). It was so convenient for us
because we were very near to the grilling area and the 30 ft. high cliff dive.
It was really a summer outing well spent, but we did not stay the whole day
because we had other plans which you will see in my next post ZIPAWAY. After beach
bumming, our next plan was to go nature tripping to the mountainous area of
Caputatan Norte, Medellin.
I can't go on without sharing our version of boodle
fight prepared by my friend whose chef alter ego was awakened on that day
(lucky us! IKR! )
